Chandigarh The Cyber Crime Investigation Cell of Chandigarh Police, in a joint operation with Karnataka Police, claimed to have solved a case of fraudulent online purchase of mobile phones with the arrest of Sahil Sharma, a resident of Sector 23.

According to sources, Deepali Gotadke, who runs a business of online flowers and gifts delivery through the website clickhubli.com, received a request for delivery at an address in Gurgaon. A purported customer named Reji Abraham of Upper Darby, USA, purchased three mobile phones online, using a credit card, in August and September 2008. After delivery, Abraham claimed that he had not made the purchases.

In other similar cases, customers named Sheila Lane from the UK and Kerrie Sheldon of USA made online purchases of two mobile phones and requested delivery at Chandigarh Institute of Hotel Management, Sector 42, and house number 1741 in Sector 23 to Sahil Sharma.

Suspecting foul play, the delivery company reported the matter to Karnataka Police on December 31.

In a joint operation, the Cyber Crime Cell and Karnataka Police today laid a trap to nab Sharma. A decoy delivery boy was sent to Sector 23 to deliver the parcel. “Sahil was arrested red-handed while accepting the parcel,” officials said.

One mobile phone and the laptop used in the crime was also recovered from his possession.
