The Vile Parle police have arrested the driver and have charged him with rash and negligent driving causing death. The driver has a learning licence. There was no licence holder apart from him in the car and therefore his parents are liable to be booked.
The driver was accompanied by a few of his friends who fled from the scene of accident. However he was prevented from running away by the locals.
“The driver has not divulged the names of his friends as he was terrified,” said senior police inspector Maruti Naik from Vile Parle Police station. “We were initially informed by the locals. We immediately sent our men there but by then they had already sent the bikers to the hospital,” added Naik. Talking about the background of those involved, Naik said, “The driver is a son of a businessman. He was driving his father’s car on a learning licence. The deceased was a second year student of homeopathy while Sheldon owns a laundry.” Naik added, “None of those involved were under the influence of alcohol.”
At Holy Spirit Hospital, Sheldon’s inconsolable mother said, “Sheldon is still not aware that his friend has died. Each time he gains consciousness he asks about Amey but I cannot gather the guts to tell him that Amey is dead.”
