Chandigarh, March 4 Leader of opposition Rajinder Kaur Bhattal today came down heavily on the state government during the debate on the Governor’s address on the floor of the House, saying only empty promises had been made by the government and nothing concrete done.

In her reply, Bhattal said, “The last time when the SAD-BJP government gave its budget, they made 70 promises, of which not even a single has been fulfilled.’’

Earlier, SAD MLA Virsa Singh Valtoha made a reference about the Delhi riots in which Sikhs were targeted, which, he said, was due to the Congress government at the Centre. To this, Bhattal replied, “We should not rake up old wounds as many more skeletons can tumble out.’’ But she made a point that the Akali Dal (Amritsar) were “truer” Sikhs than the SAD (B). She said the government had targeted premis (Dera Sacha Sauda followers) and violated religious rights of people.

She said in the Governor’s address, the government claims credit for 17 projects in the past year, but all these projects had been the work of the Congress government. Not only this, she said the government claims to have bagged 37 projects worth Rs 15,000 crore, but all of these were because of the Union government, World Bank or NABARD projects given to punjab and had no contribution of the state government.

She demanded that the state government should waive loans of the farmers which they have taken from arhtiyas.

On power, she said during the Congress tenure, the government bought electricity worth Rs 11,000 crore and many hydel and other projects were initiated. She said farmers were getting assured power supply of eight hours per day, but now the situation had worsened.
