Pune Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar on Sunday said that the international sports complex at Balewadi should not be used for non-sporting events as it would lead to the misuse of the facility provided for boosting sporting activities.

“Non-sporting events should not be carried out at the stadium as it will set a trend and people would hire it even for weddings,” Pawar said after the annual general meeting of the Maharashtra Olympic Association.

The association also raised the matter of high rentals charged for the sports complex and at various other places. Pawar will press the state government for a reduction. The association will also urge the government to release the amount announced as cash prizes for sportspersons of the state. Pawar will urge the government to increase the cash rewards to bring these at par with those offered by other states.
