Pune, October 11 MP Suresh Kalmadi was reelected as the president of the Indian Olympic Association during the annual general body meeting of the IOA on Friday.

Speaking about the general body elections Kalmadi said, “All the 33 federations and 27 state representatives were present for the elections. On the occasion, it has been decided that a total of Rs 700 crore has been alloted for the training of athletes for the Commonwealth Games and the 2012 London Olympics. The package includes training for 300 days, out of which 100 days will be done abroad. This way the athletes will get to train under foreign coaches. A new schedule to suit the needs of the athletes will be prepared. This will also include a nutritious diet and better living facilities.”

Kalmadi said, “It is important that the third Commonwealth Youth Games go smoothly in Pune. This will help us make a positive bid for the 2020 Olympics. We hope to bring the Olympics to India.”

About the national games, Kalmadi said, “The national games will be held in December this year in Ranchi and Jamshedpur. The 2009 national games will be held in Kerela and the 2011 games in Goa. This year onwards, people from the union territories of Diu and Daman will be allowed to participate. Also, athletes from states like Tripura are also welcome to participate. However, the states will not be officially acknowledged.”

Speaking about the CYG stadium Kalmadi said, “the training facilities at the stadium are world class. We have had representatives from at least 20-25 countries, asking us to let them use the facilities at the stadium for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Besides, we plan to make this a world class training ground for our own athletes. We want our local, national and international athletes to train here.”
