The Samajwadi Party (SP) organised the Maha Panchayat of the farmers on Friday in Bajna town of Mathura. The SP announced that its agitation against the government will continue till the BSP government led by Mayawati is dismissed.

On January 20, in Bajna, police had opened fire on the angry farmers protesting against the forcible acquisition of their land at a throwaway price for the Expressway, linking Delhi with Agra. The project is being executed by the Jai Prakash group.

The Left parties, announcing to intensify the agitation against the land acquisition, staged a demonstration on Friday in the Mathura district headquarter, while the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) has announced that it will organise Kisan Panchayat at Bajna on Saturday.

Jayant Chowdhary, RLD leader, said a strategy for long term sustainable agitation will be chalked out in the demonstration. Chowdhary is camping in Mathura, as he is likely to contest the next Lok Sabha polls from this constituency.

The state secretary of the Kisan Manch, Vinod Singh, threatened to intensify their agitation demanding that the Mathura victims be given the same compensation like those given in Noida and Greater Noida.

A SP delegation comprising party spokesman Amar Singh, newly-appointed general secretary Rajvir Singh and state president Shivpal Singh visited the town on Friday for an on the spot inquiry into the incident of police firing. The SP leaders also visited the family of the bereaved family of Rajendra, who succumbed to the police firing.
