The city primary education officer had to withdraw the resolution after an objection in this regard was raised by NPSS president and other members. Primary Education Officer H L Patel said orders for both, the issue and the withdrawal of the resolution, were given to him over telephone by his higher authorities.

Chief Minster Narendra Modi will address the convention, which is to be held at Dhoraji on Thursday.

The issue brings into light the means used by the government machinery to make the events attended by Modi successful, according to sources.

Bahadursinh Barad, NPSS president, said, “The resolution was unconstitutional. Teachers from 87 schools were ordered to attend the Sammelan. February 19 is a working day. Teachers shouldn't be attending a Chief Minister’s function at the cost of school duties.”

After Junagadh and Bhavnagar, the meet at Dhoraji in Rajkot district will be the fourth Mahila Sammelan to be attended by Modi in the Saurashtra region.

There have been widespread allegations that the government office staff and workers have been pressurised to attend these functions by the district authorities — who themselves are under pressure to bring women in large number at the venues.

This is for the first time that voice has been raised against it in public.

Patel said, “The resolution was withdrawn on Wednesday''.
