Ludhiana defeated Uttar Pradesh ‘Blue’ in a keenly contested match. Sukhjeet Singh of UP broke the stalemate in the 20th minute. However, soon after the onset of the second-half, M Faiz Sarwar succeeded in levelling the scores. In the 35th minute Ludhiana player Tanveer Singh scored a goal as his team emerged triumphant 2-1.

The team of Shahbad (Haryana) beat Tamil Nadu 5-1. For Tamil Nadu, Jatinder scored two goals while Harish, Krishan and Ravinder Singh struck apiece each. The consolation goal for Tamil Nadu was netted by S Niranjan.

However, Tamil Nadu Hockey Academy beat Udaipur 4-1 in their pool stage match. On behalf of the victors, D Narendran, VM Sanjay Kumar, G Parthipan and S Krishan Kumar scored a goal each while Bharat Thapa was the goal-getter for Udaipur.

In the other pool stages matches played on Monday, Haryana defeated Hyderabad 8-1, UP ‘Red’ beat Bihar 16-0, Cheema Academy, Punjab beat Assam 13-0 while Andhra Pradesh beat West Bengal 9-2.
