They alleged that the IT firm located at Sector V, Salt Lake had promised to recruit them and had taken money as caution deposit.
Students of Rourkela’s Padamanav College of Engineering (PCE) said 34 of them were recruited by Infogen Global. They were asked to pay Rs 50,000 each as caution money after signing a contract with the company for two years. The campus interview was conducted in September 2008 in the presence of the college administration and they were told to join in August this year.
The fraud came to light after the company shut down last week, the students demanded refund of their money from the college.
Meanwhile, letters have been sent to Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik demanding action against the company.
The college authorities admitted that they had acted as facilitator and had sent a team to Kolkata but the IT company officials were untraceable.
In Kolkata one person has been arrested so far and IT Minister Debesh Das has assured of all help to the students. “There is no immediate solution. But I have requested the police to act fast,” said Das.
