Mumbai, February 29 The Vakola police are investigating the theft of gold ornaments worth over Rs 3 lakh from an apartment in Kalina on Thursday. According to the police, the theft had taken place at William Anthony Castelleno’s (44) residence in Golden Arrow building, while the couple was away at work.

“There was no one in the house at the time of the incident. Both Castelleno and his wife are professionals and return home late at night. Also, the security guard at the building was not present at the time of the theft. The guards of the building are present during the day and work at the neighbouring building during the night. The guard is also being questioned in the case, but no arrests have been made so far,” said Senior Police Inspector Anil Kharade of the Vakola police station.

The unidentified thief broke into the house on Thursday night around 10 by breaking open the main door of the house and decamped with gold ornaments including gold chains, bracelets, gold ear-rings and gold bangles worth around Rs 3, 01, 200, say the police.

When asked about the presence of valuables in the house, Kharade said, “Despite the threat of thefts, people don’t put their valuables safely in a locker or a safety box deposit.”
