Panchkula, February 27 Although residents of Sector 9 in the city are satisfied with the overall performance of councillor Jalmegha Dahiya, they are of the opinion that she could do with paying a little more attention to the ward, if returning to power was any of her ambitions.

There are many development works that are pending in the ward. From establishing a dispensary to maintaining the sector community centre apart from dealing with the increasing number of jhuggis, residents feel these are the areas which need immediate attention of the authorities.

Also, the sector market being one of the most visited spots of the city, parking has become a headache.

Complaints and expectations
“The site for a dispensary has been lying vacant ever since the sector came up, but till date nothing has been done about it. We have approached the authorities many times but to no avail. This plot has become a secure base camp for nefarious activities in the sector,” said Mukesh Anand, a resident. He added that even though exorbitant rates are being charged by the authorities for the upkeep of the community centre, the place is in need of basic facilities.
Similar sentiments were echoed by Suresh Mehra, another resident of the ward who said, “The community centre is not only unmanned, it’s always been in a poor shape with no thought for maintenance at all. Besides, it has one small room which is not spacious for wedding parties. If the facility is being provided at all and that too at such high rates, there should be some expectation that has to be met.”
Another resident, Harjit Kaur, said the law and order in the sector is also quite abandoned here. The lack of a police post near the sector market being one of the major reasons behind this.
After Sector 7, the market of Sector 9 is the most important one of the city with thousands of people visiting it every day. Along with the lack of a police post, less space for parking also leads to lots of problems. “Though we feel fine with the overall work, these problems should be taken care of,” added Kaur.

Councillorspeak
Councillor Jalmegha Dahiya said the last five years have been an activity-filled term. According to her, except for the dispensary, which she assured would be brought to completion if re-elected, most of the development work has been done in the ward.
“A lot of work like repair of roads, installation of streetlights etc took up most part of the last five years. As for the jhuggis, we do keep writing to HUDA and get them removed, but due to the ongoing construction in the sector, labourers keep coming.” She added that a large number of parks in the ward are being maintained in the best possible way.
