As much as Rs 934 crore was collected till December 2007 in this fiscal, against Rs 847 crore during the corresponding period of the last financial year.
Walia said Rs 31.5 crore was collected as excise duty on the liquor sale during the week ending on December 31, 2007, in comparison to Rs 27 crore, during the corresponding week of the last financial year.
He added that his department has been taking “proactive steps” to curb the sale of illicit liquor in Delhi and “has been making available quality liquor” to a large number of visitors/tourists coming to the city.
About 255 restaurants in the city have been allowed to serve liquor after 12 am and continue till 1 am.
In addition to this, 14 outlets in 11 hotels have also been given permission to serve liquor for 24 hours.
