Regional Officer Radhey Shyam said the board had ordered the factories to install a meter in their outlet pipe to measure the amount of wastewater discharged. He said 214 tanneries, 25 dyeing units and six electroplating units failed to install meters. He added it is a matter of concern, as the wastewater is being supplied to agricultural farms.
General secretary of Jajmau Tannery Association Mohammed Shahid Hussain alleged harrassment by board officials and refuted UPPCB’s charges.
During an inspection carried by UPPCB on the banks of river Ganga, it was found that the board officials were ignorant of the amount of waste disposed.
