Mumbai The 37th Metropolitan Court last week allowed Vinod Masani, the owner of trawler MV Kuber, to take back his vessel. The court however imposed several conditions on him.

The vessel was used by the terrorists to enter Mumbai from Porbandar to carry out the Mumbai terror attacks Confirming the order passed by Magistrate N Shrimangle public prosecutor Eknath Dhamal said, “The owner of the trawler had filed an application saying he wanted his trawler back for his business. The crime branch did not oppose it as recently the police gave him a clean chit from the terror attacks’ conspiracy. Thus the court allowed him to take back his ship.” He added that according to the court’s order Masani has also been allowed to take back his other belongings on the trawler including a few clothes, utensils, drums and other things which the police say do not belong to the terrorists who travelled in the ship.

The trawler was seized by the police after the terror attack. The body of the ship’s captain Amar Narayan who is believed to be killed by the 10 terrorists was also found in the trawler. The trawler, Dhamal said, is parked near Ferry Wharf and Masani can take the ship after the necessary dock clearances.

Dhamal said that the court imposed several conditions on Masani before allowing him to take the ship, one of the crucial evidences, to prove that the accused came through water from Pakistan via Porbandar.

The court has said that Masani cannot dispose or sell the ship to anyone. He cannot carry out any major changes without the court’s permission and has to dock the ship in Mumbai as and when the trial court requires it to be examined for the case against the lone arrested terrorist Ajmal Kasab and others responsible for the Mumbai terror attack.

According to the Mumbai police the 10 terrorists travelled from Karachi in a vessel called Al Hussaini till the international maritime border and then shifted to Kuber. Close to the Mumbai shore they moved into a dinghy and landed at Badhwar Park in Cuffe Parade.
