“Pakistan’s response on February 12, admitting that elements in Pakistan were involved in Mumbai attacks, is a positive first step. At the same time they need to do more. The perpetrators of the attack should be brought to justice and Pakistan must dismantle the infrastructure of terrorism in its territory to prevent recurrence of such attacks. Until these actions are taken, the threat to terrorism from Pakistan will remain a major challenge to India and this region,” said Mukherjee.
He also stressed on the fact that in spite of the situation the Government had consciously decided not to discontinue people-to-people level contacts and road and rail links and had kept open the channel of communication with Pakistan.
On the issue of conflict in Sri Lanka, Mukherjee said the Sri Lankan Government should use the ceasefire by the LTTE as an opportunity to move over trapped civilians to safe zones and international aid organisations like International Community of Red Cross (ICRC) should be allowed to have access to war-torn areas.

Dear Editor,We in india or any where else in the whole world would be naive to believe that Pakistan would foldup the terror infra structure in their country. It is due to the existence of the terrorist and Jehadis the Pakistani Army is enjoying unwritten and unspoken benefits known to all the intelligence agencies in the world.Mr. Mukherjee is also aware of the limitations and hence it is futile to build up unneccesary hope on this count.
