The team comprises Dr Anjum Sohail, Mohmmad Jalal Arif, Mohmmad Afjal, Ghulam Abaas, Mohmmad Arshad of the University of Agriculture, Faislabad. In a meeting with the PAU Vice Chancellor, Dr Sohail said that more opportunities should be made available for professional interaction between faculty and students of our farm varsities’.
He added that the training at PAU will be beneficial, especially for young scientists. He pointed out that facilities in the toxicology laboratory can be gainfully used in pesticide residue analysis.
Addressing the group, Dr Kang said that facilities in the nano-science laboratory are availed by students of not only PAU, but also other institutes in the region. He was also in favour of a strong professional interaction between PAU and its mother institute at Faislabad in Pakistan.
He highlighted that the commonality of language, culture and heritage between the two Punjabs are a strong point for a purposeful interaction. There can be a variety of areas for interaction such as students exchange, faculty visits, joint efforts in the area of residue analysis, cotton IPM and studying the new fauna and flora of the region through joint efforts, opined the delegate members. The Vice-Chancellor offered an invitation to the delegation members to participate in the forthcoming alumni meet at PAU in April, 2008.
PAU Additional Director of Communication Dr Jagtar Singh Dhiman said that collaboration in the area of communication, technology transfer and knowing each other’s agricultural strengths can be worthwhile. On this occasion, Dr NS Butter, Head, Department of Entomology, Dr AK Dhawan, Senior Entomologist and Dr GS Sandhu, a former Professor of Entomology were also present. The delegate members were presented mementoes and literature by the Vice-Chancellor. Dr Butter proposed the vote of thanks.
