It will be the first time the Electronic Voting Machines will be used for their municipal corporation (MC) elections. As many as 1,11,854 voters will exercise their franchise. The Model Code of Conduct has come into force. No official connected with election work will be transferred till the election process is completed.
The state Election Commissioner, Chander Singh, said though elections were to be held by March 6, “due to the ongoing board exams, a request was received to postpone the election, which we have considered.”
The Election Commission has decided to appoint one Observer (Election) and one Observer (Expenditure). “Also, the State Election Commission has issued directions according to the Supreme Court order that a candidate will have to mention in writing his criminal background if any, details of moveable and immoveable assets, educational qualification and disqualification under Haryana Municipal Act, 1973. This will have to be submitted as an affidavit to the Returning Officer at the time of filing of nomination,” Singh said.
The Commission has fixed a limit of Rs 50,000 on the expenditure by the candidates or their authorised election agents. The candidate will have to maintain an account and it will have to submitted within 30 days of the declaration of results. A defaulting candidate is liable to be disqualified. The votes will be counted after the closure of he polling at the polling station itself. The results will be declared immediately.
