The Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) is all set to develop the state’s biggest park, Rajiv Gandhi Walker’s Paradise Park, on around 140 acres in Sector 1 of the Mansa Devi Complex (MDC)). Aiming at a greener Panchkula, it has recently approved a number of projects to build more parks and gardens in the city.
“The proposal for the park (Walker’s Paradise) has been approved and the landscape architect of HUDA is working on its design. Coming up on a covered area of around 140 acres, the Rajiv Gandhi Walker’s Paradise Park will be the biggest of all parks in the state,” said HUDA superintending engineer Jogi Ram. He added that there would be a special track for the joggers, different areas for sitting, amusement section, a number of green belts and water bodies.
He said the authorities also planned to develop a special forest area in the park. “The authorities have got approval for a number of new gardens and parks in the city. While a garden on 30 acres — Special Garden — will be developed in Sector 1 of Mansa Devi Complex, a Bougainvillea Garden is proposed on two and a half acres in Sector 26. There are also proposals for a model park on six acres in Sector 4 of the MDC and a number of new parks in Sectors 27 and 28,” added Ram.
The horticulture wing will shortly take up another project to spruce up the Singh nullah that passes through Sectors 1, 12, 12A and 4 of Panchkula.
“There is a proposal to beautify the entire area near the seasonal nullah and walking tracks. A number of ornamental plants will be grown under the project. The estimated costs of all the projects are being worked out and work on them will start soon,” said Ram.
