Panchkula, January 1 The Children Traffic Park in Sector 12, Panchkula, has been going without electricity for the last several months now. Reason: The Haryana Urban Development Authority has not paid its electricity bill. While HUDA officials say it is the Panchkula traffic police’s responsibility, traffic police officials say the maintenance of the park was handed over to HUDA long ago.

“The pending electricity bill is around Rs 13,201. We have several visitors every day, including students, who come to the park to learn about traffic rules and regulations,” said an official at the Traffic Park on condition of anonymity. He said the park’s electricity connection was snapped around five months ago.

“Some electricity payment was to be made but the maintenance of the traffic park was handed over to HUDA from the police department. it has been months since the park was handed over, but the electricity bill has not been paid,” said a traffic police official.

Reema Sharma, a resident of Sector 4, who was visiting the park, said, “The entire purpose of the park gets defeated in the absence of an electricity connection. I brought my two children here so that they could learn a little more about how traffic lights function and could gain a little more knowledge about traffic rules...”.

HUDA Horticulture Superintendent Engineer Jogi Ram said the Horticulture wing is responsible only for the maintenance part of the park. He said the SE, Electrical is responsible for paying the electricity bill. HUDA Estate Officer Monika Malik said she will soon get the park’s electricity connection restored.
