Ahmedabad With plans to set up a hundred-percent export oriented unit (EOU) for dehydrated ginger, garlic and onions, the Panchmahals District Co-operative Milk Producers' Union (Panchmahals Dairy) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government.

The MoU has been signed to set up its unit at Moti Sarsav in Santrampur taluka of the district. Chief Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the plant on Saturday. The pact was inked on January 12 at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit.

Dairy chairman and BJP MP Bhupendrasinh Solanki said this would be the first EOU in the region that would be processing and exporting the high-end product with full import commitment from America, where clients like McDonalds were lined up for purchase of this product.

Solanki said the plant would have a production capacity of 10 tonnes per day and the state government had given the land for plant. It would cost around Rs 20 crore and would be set up on 25 acres.

Of the Rs 20-crore investment needed, 75 per cent would come from the government and the rest would be the dairy's share.

Talking of the products, Solanki said that ginger grown in four talukas of the district was best in quality all over the country with its fibreless content.

There were 8,000 farmers busy growing ginger, onion and garlic in the district. This is going to be a major value addition export oriented project in the co-operative sector.

Meanwhile, investment of Rs 35,456 cr was pledged by way of 190 MoUs that also promised jobs to millions of people in the state.

Two mega food parks in Patan district also formed part of the investment commitments.

State’s Agriculture and Co-operation Minister Dilip Sanghani said that against the national average of four per cent, Gujarat had maintained 13 per cent growth in the farm sector, which held the key to progress in times to come.
