New Delhi/Ghaziabad In an appeal petition in the Allahabad High Court, Moninder Singh Pandher has said his case deserved another hearing as several key factors were ‘overlooked’ by the CBI court in Ghaziabad, which sentenced him to death for the Nithari killings.

Explaining the details, Pandher’s lawyer Manoj Gupta said two appeals are made if the accused appeals in a High Court against a lower court. “The first, the jail appeal, is to make the judges familiar about his case and his grievances. The second appeal is made by the lawyers, who present the technical side of the case.”

“Pandher has made a jail appeal. We will appeal in the High Court after Holi,” Gupta said.

In a note attached with his appeal petition, Pandher has said he was aggrieved with the verdict, and that points not favourable to him were made the “basis of the judgment”.

On February 13, Special CBI judge Rama Jain had sentenced Pandher and his domestic help, Surender Koli, to death for the rape and murder of 14-year-old girl Rimpa Halder, one of the 19 victims in the Nithari serial killings.
