In its report, the district administration said the children at Bibipur Primary School objected to eating the mid-day meal cooked by Phool Kumari because she was not maintaining hygiene, and not because she is a Dalit.
The Commission decided to close the case filed by the Ambedkar Mahasabha saying there were not enough evidence to prove any caste bias.
Talking to The Indian Express, Shambhu Nath, Secretary of the Commission, said, “We have closed the case because there was no proof of any bias. We can open the case again if any local villager comes up with a written complaint of discrimination against the cook on the basis of her caste.”
Phool Kumari was appointed at the Bibipur Primary school as a cook on December 10 and students stopped eating the meal from the day she started cooking. While junior students admitted that they were not eating the meal cooked by her because she belongs to a lower caste, the seniors said her cooking was not hygienic. Later, she was removed and the Ambedkar Mahasabha took up her case.
