Ambala The District Administration has declared National Highway-1, starting from IOC Terminus (Shastri Colony), Ambala Cantonment to Dhulkot Barrier, Ambala City (Ambala-Chandigarh Road) with other surrounding areas opposite the Ambala Cantonment railway station, as a ‘no-parking zone’ for the smooth and regulated flow of traffic to avoid accidents and traffic jams.

An order issued by District Magistrate S P Srow, under

Section 144 of the CrPC, says that in addition to the danger of accidents and traffic jams, the local defence forces and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officials have been complaining that the clustering of hawkers and unauthorised parking under the road bridge opposite the railway station poses a potential security threat, which can cause danger to human life and disturb peace.

Taking into consideration these factors, DM Srow ordered a ban on the unauthorised parking of vehicles, buses, autorickshaws, road squatters and rehris on either sides of the road passing through the Ambala district except in the case of a breakdown or other unavoidable circumstances.

The order further states that encroachments, parking and unauthorised establishment of any commercial activity on the National Highway opposite the underbridge will be treated as illegal possession of government property.

The order also states that the road leading to Ambala Cantonment/ Sadar from the underbridge of NH-1, starting from the Deluxe dhaba turn to Swastik chowk and from the underbridge starting from Prince Hotel to the Ambala Cantonment bus stand and the railway crossing towards Baldevnagar in Ambala City were also declared as ‘no-parking zones’.
