Party time

When Payal Sakhuja’s son turned four last month, she wanted a party with a difference. “I didn’t want the same boring games,” says the 32-year-old Delhi-based businesswoman. She roped in a website www.fulloflife.in to plan the bash, and they promised her something the young guests would remember for a long time. “We had painting, pottery making and beading instead of the predictable games,” says Sakhuja. The kids loved it, especially birthday boy Yash.

Fulloflife, set up a few months ago by Rashi Chopra, 24, focuses on lending a constructive edge to children’s birthday parties. It offers separate creative themes for boys and girls and has a repertoire of 30 activities like wood-modelling, kite-making, ceramics, mask-making, doll-making, painting and pottery. “But a party should remain fun and not become a workshop,” says Chopra, who has organised over 35 parties for 4-12 year olds.

The activities, selected after consultation with the parents, are as per the child’s age group. Three-year-olds can play with non-toxic paints on a carpet of drawing paper while an eight-year-old could try his hand at assembling a wooden airplane from an aero-modeling kit. “The children enjoy taking their handicraft home as return gifts,” she adds. The site also organises theme parties. “We’ve had parties revolving around Superman, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Batman for the boys and Ballerina and Hannah Montana for the girls,” she says. A party can cost between Rs 8,000 and Rs 80,000.
