Fashion shows are back on Lucknow stage with a vengeance. On Sunday evening, one such ‘passion for fashion’ was demonstrated during ‘Tomorrow Makers-09’ — the annual graduating show of fashion and textile design students of International Institute of Fashion Designing (INIFD), Lucknow.
Staged at Gulistan Lawns at Hotel Taj Residency, imagination ran wild at the show put together by Mumbai based choreographer Marc Robinson. Top notch models sashayed down to ramp displaying some of the hottest fashions from the collection.
From the Arabian nights to the colours of the rainbow, the richness of Rajasthan and the age old Mughal style, the audience comprising who’s who from city of Nawabs, witnessed a tour of fashion that has transformed over the ages.
While collection Check-n-Mate showcased a classic range of block printed black and white sarees with patterns, wavy lines and abstract designs, Arabian nights presented a glittering collection of beautiful harems, kaftans and pathan suits with traditional workmanship.
Another line of collection Pink Panther attempted to showcase youthfulness and wilderness through pink garments made from leather. The hot highlight of the evening was the display of Mistletoe collection. Inspired by a vintage look of the 70s and 80s, the album showcased a variety of ready to wear western collection.
Grandeur and grace was added to the Shaam-e-Avadh when the collection titled ‘Shan-e-Avadh’ unfolded before the audience. Socialite Kum Kum Roy Choudhary, Kush Bhargava, Chandra Prakash, Lt Col Shyam Singh, Shekhar Walavalkar judged the event compered by Varun.
Show stopper sania
Sania Mirza who brought international glory by winning her first grand slam on Sunday ‘played’ the ‘show stopper’ of the show.
Courtesy, compere Varun, tennis sensation Sania’s name cropped up when models were displaying ‘Graff”ical play’ collection. As models sashayed on ramp with orange and turquoise tennis skirts, Varun in a bid to praise his models compared their figure with one of Sania’s. His conclusion that models on the ramp were far better than Sania did not go well with audience especially as the entire nation was raising a toast for Sania the same evening.
