Ludhiana, March 2 Angry relatives of a patient, who had died at Shri Krishna Charitable Hospital in Model Town this evening, ransacked the hospital after they went on a rampage spree breaking glasses of wards and management office in the hospital. Kirpal Singh (32) was admitted to the hospital a week ago.

The relatives alleged that negligence on the part of hospital authorities led to the death of their kin. However, the hospital management denied the allegations and said he died of cardiac arrest.

The mob attacked the office of the management and alleged that the doctors in the hospital had administered an injection to Kirpal without conducting any tests, which led to the death of the patient.

"The patient was suffering from a heart problem and had got a heart attack. Finding the condition critical, we shifted him to an ICU (Intensive Care Unit) and put him on a ventilator. But in spite of our best efforts, we could not save him," said Dr Gurpreet Singh.

Hospital secretary Khushbakat Rai said there was no medical negligence on the part of the hospital. "We have competent staff and there has been no lapse in providing medical care to the patient. The doctors were only trying to save the life of the patient. The injection given to him was a part of the treatment." He added that the mob also damaged ventilator in the ICU.

Waryam Sing, SHO, Model Town, said the mob alleged that the hospital had show slackness in treating the patient.

"This can only be ascertained after we verify the medical facts after post mortem.

A medical board will be constituted to find out the cause of death.

As of now, we are questioning the two sides and investigating to the matter. However, no case has been registered as yet," he said.
