PAU draws up a line of events to pay tribute to Dr Randhawa

Ludhiana As part of the activities planned in connection with the birth centenary celebrations of Dr M S Randhawa, special programmes have been slated at Punjab Agricultural University.

An art gallery in the name of Dr Randhawa will be inaugurated by Dr Manjit Singh Kang, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, on February 26 at 10 am.

Iqbal Kaur Randhawa, wife of Dr Randhawa along with her family members, will also be present on the occasion.

The gallery, which has been established atop the Wheat auditorium, will house various paintings and art material available at PAU.

Additional Director of Communication Dr Jagtar Singh Dhiman said that paintings of various eminent artists will be put up on display at the gallery.

Another event scheduled for February 26 is the release of a special commemorative book entitled Mohinder Singh Randhawa, Maker of Modern Punjab. The book, written in English and Punjabi, is a collection of articles by people who were associated with Dr Randhawa at some time or the other.

The contributors include Dr M S Swaminathan,  Sidharth,  P P S Gill,  K S Chawla, Dr Amarjit Singh, Hari Singh Sandhu, Dr Jagtar Singh Dhiman, Dr Satish Narula,  Janmeja Singh Johl, Balwant Gargi, Dr Gulzar Singh Sandhu, Dr Dalip Kaur Tiwana,  Jagdev Singh Jassowal, Dr Surjit Patar,  Surinder Pal Singh Dosanjh, Dr Ranjit Singh,  Gurbhajan Singh Gill, Dr Kanwal Mahindra, Dr Gurdev Singh Sandhu,  Surinder Singh Sekhon and Mohinder Singh Grewal.

The book also has an exclusive interview with Iqbal Kaur Randhawa.

The book will be available for sale after its release, said Dr Dhiman, Convener of the Dr Randhawa Centenary Celebration Committee, adding that it will be dispatched to different libraries and institutes across the country.

The first copy of the book will be presented to his wife, a special guest on the occasion. He added that Dr G S Sandhu will distribute a small booklet, containing poems by different writers on Dr Randhawa. It has been compiled specially for the occasion.

The ‘Dr M S Randhawa Section’ in the PAU Central Library, now named as Dr M S Randhawa Library, will display the manuscripts by and on the former vice-chancellor of PAU.

Meanwhile, the PAU Department of Floriculture and Landscaping in collaboration with the PAU Estate Organisation and Department of Family Resource Management will hold a flower show and competition, dedicated to Dr Randhawa, to be inaugurated by Dr Kang on February 25.

The flower show is a regular annual event that attracts people from diverse profiles of society including students, amateur gardeners, ex-servicemen, florists, flower enthusiasts and archiitects.

The Museum of Social History of Punjab, a landmark on the PAU campus that showcases Punjabi culture, heritage and customs, created by Dr Randhawa himself will also be open for visitors.
