Giving information about these varieties, Dr. D.S.Dhillon, officiating Director of Extension Education said that PR-120 variety of paddy is a semi dwarf variety with dark green erect leaves. Its average plant height is about 107 cm. It matures in 132 days after seeding. It possesses long slender clear translucent grains with good cooking quality. The variety resists eight pathotypes of bacterial blight pathogens prevalent in Punjab. The variety yields 28.5 quintal per acre.
The variety Punjab Mehak-I is an aromatic rice variety, 100 cm tall, matures in about 132 days after seeding and possesses extra long slender clear translucent grains with strong aroma. It has excellent cooking and eating qualities. The cooked rice is non-sticky and soft to eat. The variety matures in about 125 days after seeding and is resistant to the eight pathotypes of bacterial blight prevalent in Punjab. It yields 17 quintal paddy per acre.
