Ludhiana The Punjab Agricultural University Teachers Association (PAUTA) will hold its general house meeting on March 4.

A signature campaign in this regard is on in the university where posters carrying signatures of PAUTA general secretary Mukesh Siag and president Dr G S Saroa have been displayed.

The meeting will discuss 'revised pay scales for teachers, ‘attitude of authorities towards faculty issue’ and ‘bifurcation of PAU’ apart from the circumstances that led to a change in the president of PAUTA. It was on the last issue that the rival faction of PAUTA had initiated a signature campaign.

While Dr G S Saroa was not available for comments, Siag refused to comment.

The general house is likely to discuss the issue of PAU bifurcation which was done in 2006 to carve out Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. The PAUTA had opposed the move and had also filed a law suit which will come up shortly for hearing in the Supreme Court.

Notable here is that after Dr M S Mahal's resignation from the post of PAUTA head, the executive appointed Dr Saroa as its president. However, Dr Mahal had been saying, “My resignation should be taken to the general body for it is the faculty of PAU who had elected me and hence they should be the ones who should accept or reject my resignation.”

PAUTA Vice-President B S Sohal too said, “After Dr Mahal, it is the vice-president who gets to officiate as president till the remaining term. To sort out the entire issue, the general house meeting is the best option.”
