On February 18, the district administration received toilet construction proposals of these employees and the district sanitation officials hope the number will increase in the coming days. The collector had taken action under the Nirmal Gram or ban open defecation plan against employees having no toilet blocks at their homes.
“The action has elicited good response and the employees have taken it positively,” Dalvi said.
District sanitation officer Sanjay Maskar said many employees have approached village panchayats with their proposal. “The government employees have moved into action,” he said.
As per the orders, a showcause notice has been issued by the zilla parishad administration, seeking clarification within eight days as to why their residences don’t have the necessary toilet blocks.
The block development officer of the panchayat samitis are implementing the order. As many as 6,183 employees have been listed as having no toilet blocks at their residences. Of these, 1,518 employees are from Baramati and 1,284 from Junnar.
A written assurance was sought from these employees that they would build the toilet blocks in a month.
“For those who started the construction, the salaries will be released,” said a senior sanitation officer. The house rent allowance, which forms 15 per cent of the salary, was also recovered from these employees.
