Kolkata The family of Lalmohan Tudu, a top leader of the People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA) who was killed in a police encounter on February 22 at Kantapahari in Lalgarh, has urged the Calcutta High Court to pass an order that allows them to take his body, which has been lying in a morgue for over a week now.

The petition was filed by Tudu’s brother-in-law Dhani Ram Kisku and Association for Protection of Democratic Rights (APDR), a human rights organisation, on Tuesday. They alleged the police refused to hand over the body to his family after identification on February 23.

Two days later, the ADPR claimed, its members went to Jhargram and urged the police and local administration to hand over the body to his family but to no avail.

The petition alleges that Tudu was not killed in a police encounter but was picked up by the security forces along with two others from his home at Narcha village on the night of February 22. The police then took them to a deserted place and opened fire on them. Next day the body of Tudu was recovered from a field, the petition adds. According to the petition, the other two are still missing.

The petition alleges that the police killed Tudu after he was chosen the president of the PCAPA. Justice Dipankar Dutta of the Calcutta High Court, while accepting the plea, said he will hear the case later this week.

Meanwhile, Manoj Verma, SP (West Midnapore) dismissed the allegations made in the petition saying the Tudu family did not approach the Lalgarh police station to hand over his body on February 23. Verma said the police requested the Tudu family to receive the body after February 25 but it was refused by them.

No dilution in compensation to slain EFR personnel
The Left Front government on Tuesday said that there was no “confusion” about the compensation package announced for the families of 24 EFR personnel killed in the Maoist attack at the Silda camp. Reacting to reports in the media that the package has been ‘diluted’, Chief Secretary Asok Mohan Chakrabarti said, “Extending the benefits to the families of victims is currently under process.” The compensation package included payment of Rs 15 lakh to each family, the last drawn salary of each personnel till the date of retirement and a government job for a family member, he said. Whose interest are serving 'human rights activists'? by Amalesh on 04 Mar 2010

Association for Protection of Democratic Rights (APDR), a human rights organisation- ONLY FOR PROTECTION OF MAOISTs' INTERESTS! this "human rights organisation" does not utter a word when Maoists or PCAPA militia massacre policemen and general people who don't listen to Maoists diktat. rather this organisation collect funds and co-ordinate Maoists movement in several districts of West Bengal. Do this people really love India? these people are only interested in self-interest with the help of Maoists arms. if these people are not dealt accordingly India soon become another 'middle east' where everday life is living with violence.Even before trial begins they(APDR)given 'verdict' that 'Tudu was not killed in a police encounter but was picked up by the security forces along with two others from his home at Narcha village on the night of February 22. The police then took them to a deserted place and opened fire on them'! Then what's the need of juduciary? India beware of this TERRORISTS!
