Mumbai This Republic Day, a secular march will pass through some of the landmarks which were targeted by the terrorists in the city.

According to the organisers, Anjuman Islam Social and Education Trust, students, professors and teachers from 80 institutes of the trust will participate in the peace march. “We’re going to start from the office of Anti Terrorism Squad since that’s the place which was badly affected in the terror strikes. It has lost its chief too,” said Dr Zahir Kazi, general secretary of the trust.

“We will then be moving towards the J J Hospital where many of the victims were first admitted. The march will then proceed to the Cama Hospital and go via the police commissionerate before reaching the CST station. From CST, we will return to the school campus for offering a prayer.”

The aim of the march, according to Kazi, “is not just to hold placards” but to send a strong message that “citizens also should have a sense of belonging towards the city and the country they belong to” and be part of its security arrangements. Kazi, who is also a member of Muslim peace committees, said,”Now, the Indian Muslims are against Pakistan and the state-sponsored terrorism”. He also said that the rally in many ways would also send a message that ordinary citizens should participate in the security process since alert citizens help the security agencies tackle terrorism and enforce the laws.”

“We will celebrate the day with the importance it needs to be given and take the celebration to the local level,” Kazi added.
