With no new projects in hand, BMC plans to finish its pending projects like refurbishment and reconstruction of hospital buildings and purchase CT scan machines and MRI among others.

For the first time the BMC has come out with an outcome-based budget and under the Health department one of the critical components of it is to channelise resources into making Mumbai an epidemic-free city, improving the life span of residents and providing international standards.

Though there are no big allocations this year the civic body will provide artificial limbs to physically handicapped women and children below 14 years and those belonging to the backward classes. Rs 1.28 crore and Rs 3 crore has been allocated for this.

BMC will bear an expenditure of Rs 1.5 lakh on heart surgeries for civic students. A provision of Rs 20 lakh has been made in this year's budget for students who belong to the lower strata of society. Around 10-12 students with heart ailments were identified in a school health diagnosis programme In view of the high number of malaria cases reported every year in the city, the amount allocated to fight the mosquito menace has been increased with Rs 18.34 crore been proposed for procurement of chemicals.
