Lucknow, February 25 The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) may have sidetracked Dalit icon Ramaswamy Naikar Periyar and his Sachchi Ramayan issue to avoid controversies, but the Indian Justice Party (IJP) plans to put up his statues in Lucknow and Allahabad.

Declaring his intentions to this effect, IJP chief Udit Raj, a Dalit leader, said his party will install the statues on April 14 —the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti. Meanwhile, former BSP minister R D Gautam, former BSP national general secretary Ram Samujh and a number of workers joined the IJP today.

Calling Periyar the “icon of the oppressed”, Raj said as BSP chief and Chief Minister Mayawati has forgotten the contributions of this great leader, “we have decided to put up his statues.”
