New Delhi, February 2 A petition has been filed in the High Court seeking removal of the coordinator of a committee, appointed by the court, to implement the Jama Masjid re-developmental plan, alleging that the official did not take initiatives to implement the project.

Varun Goswami, the petitioner, told a Division Bench of Justice A K Sikri and Justice Rekha Sharma that Deputy Commissioner of MCD Vijay Singh was appointed by the High Court in 2006 to co-ordinate with other agencies and implement the Jama Masjid re-developmental plan.

Seeking removal of the coordinator, Goswami said since the court had passed the order for compliance not a single work has been done so far.

It was alleged that Singh's inconvenience with the Shahi Imam of the historical mosque has not taken any step so far.

The petitioner submitted that the court had approved a re-developed plan for the Masjid in 2006 and the same was approved by the Delhi Urban Art Commission on a PIL seeking direction to the management of the Masjid and the civic agencies to keep the area clean and beautiful.

The Bench will hear the petition on Tuesday.
