Chandigarh The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Monday arrested a junior assistant with the PGI after he was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000. The accused, identified as one Mohan Singh, was posted with the Department of Surgery.

According to CBI officials, Varinder Singh, an accused in a stabbing case in Kurali, approached them with a complaint against Mohan.

Varinder said Mohan had demanded Rs 10,000 from him to “manipulate” the medico-legal report (MLR) in the case.

He further alleged that Mohan had assured him that the injury to the accused would be reported as “minor” if the demanded amount was paid, otherwise he would write the injury as “grievous” in the MLR. The amount was, however, negotiated to Rs 5,000.

Varinder, today, approached the PGI to handover the money to Mohan Singh where CBI officials nabbed him and took him to their Sector-30 office. A case under Section 13 (1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused.
