Chandigarh With about three months left for PGI Director Prof K K Talwar to vacate office, the PGI Employees Union has written to Union Health Minister Dr Anbumani Ramadoss, also the president of PGI, Chandigarh, to initiate the process for appointment of the next director.

“It is important to initiate the process of selection and appointment of Director, PGI, well in advance otherwise the employees, patients and public have to face harassment on account of unnecessary delay in the decision-making process at the Institute level. The Union had experienced such an unwarranted situation in 1990-1991 and again in 1999-2000,” wrote the Union.

Copies of the letter have been sent to Loksabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and the Union Health Secretary.

Executive body dissolved ahead of next elections
The executive body of the PGI Employees Union has been dissolved as elections for the 2009-2011 session is scheduled to be held soon. In a meeting of the executive body on Saturday, it was told that the election commission has been asked to provide dates for the next elections at the earliest. The Union also decided to constitute an award in the memory of General Secretary K K Yadav, who had expired last month.
