This was the consensus evolved on the first day of the three-day national conference on ‘Innovations in Drug Discovery and Research’, which began at the Science Auditorium of Panjab University on Tuesday. The conference is being organised by the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Drug Research, PU.
HOD of Pharmaceutical Sciences, A K Tiwari, said that the department has received grants of over Rs 1 crore from different national funding agencies during the current year.
Over 100 delegates from across the country are participating in the event. Vice-Chancellor of JSS University, Mysore and President of Pharmacy Council of India, B Suresh, said, “Proper cooperation and coordination between the government, industry, research organisations and academic institutions is necessary to produce quality products that could be used by a large number of people.” Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University, Jaspal Singh, said, “Globalisation, has not spared even the health care sector and has rather led to the generation of many incurable diseases. Strict regulations and ‘engulfing’ of pharmaceutical firms by the MNCs are making things difficult for the Indian companies.”
