“I took to camera during my school days as it was compulsory in our school for each child to choose a hobby. The usual choices were painting, art and craft but I chose the camera,” Talwar recalls.
This love, he says, stems from the “passion which photography generates”.
“Photography has helped me understand and appreciate other art forms as well,” he says.
“In 1969, I was given the award for best photographer in my school. I still remember that it was a proud moment for me,” recalls the photographer while adding that his favourite pictures are the ones of Mall Road and the Fountain Chowk that he had clicked from an aircraft.
“No one will believe that the Mall Road, which is a clutter of concrete high rise buildings today, was once so open and green,” says Naveen who grew up in the Mall Road area of the city.
“I completed my schooling from P P S Nabha and later studied commerce from Government College for Boys,” says Talwar who owns an LPG agency that was actually allotted to his younger brother who was physically challenged.
“Unfortunately my brother died just when we were ready to inaugurate the agency in 1982,” added Talwar.
A lover of nature, Naveen says, “I travel to mountains and glaciers to enjoy the beauty. It is the sea shore that I still have to capture through my lens and for this I am headed for Goa next week.”
