Kolkata Five pilgrims were on Saturday seriously injured and around 20 others escaped with minor injuries when the bus they were returning in from Gangasagar Mela rammed into a truck near Deolia. All of them were headed for Orissa.

Police said the tourists had visited the Mayapur temple and were heading for Orissa when the accident occurred. The five who were injured seriously have been admitted to a hospital in the area. “It is possible that the bus driver could not see the truck since it was foggy. Or, he may have dozed off at the wheel after driving throughout the night,” said Kaushik Basak, officer-in-charge, Kolaghat police station.

The accident occurred between 6.30-7 am when most of the passengers were asleep.
