Pink rules: Most New Year babies are girls

Chandigarh, January 1 Around 20 babies were born in different hospitals of Chandigarh on New Year till Tuesday afternoon.

“I am very happy because it is my first child and excited because he is born on the first day of the year,” said Chhaya who gave birth to a boy at 12.19 am on January 1, 2008, at Government Hospital, Sector 16.

Champa, a resident of Manimajra, also gave birth to a boy, her second child, at 12.33 am on January 1.

“I was not expecting him today... I am glad he is healthy,” said Champa.

Except Government Hospital-16, pink was the colour of the day in majority of the hospitals as most of the newborns were girls. In GMCH-32, six baby girls were born till Tuesday afternoon. The first among them was born at 12.40 am.

In PGIMER, all the newborns from midnight onwards were girls.

Of the nine babies born in Government Hospital, Sector 16,

on the first day of the year till 2 pm, six were boys and three were girls.

Doctors on duty at Government Hospital-16 said there were a few premature deliveries.

The maternity wards in most hospitals were full of ecstatic parents.
