Pirated CDs worth over Rs 17 lakh seized

Ahmedabad Pirated compact discs (CD) worth Rs 16.8 lakh have been seized from two shops in Junagadh. Junagadh local crime branch police have arrested two persons under provisions of violation of the Copyright Act and the Indian Penal Code for this.

According to police officials, an official from Mumbai’s Bandra-based A A Khan and Associates, Yogesh Chauhan, had lodged a complaint in this regard with Junagadh police.

Following the complaint, the local crime branch police raided the CD shop Navarang Musicals, located in Talav Darwaja area and recovered 2,118 pirated CDs worth Rs 5,90, 400 from there. The police also arrested the owner of the shop, Gautam Harwani, a resident of Lalbahadur Society.

In another raid carried out on Aanand video shop in Dolatpara area of the city, the police seized 4,150 pirated CDs and DVDs worth Rs 10, 90,500 and arrested Jagjivan Budhdev, the owner of the shop.

Both Hirwani and Budhdev have been booked under Section 420 of Indian Penal Code and under various provision of the Copyright Act.

Both the accused will be produced before the court on Tuesday evening, the police said.
