The move follows a Delhi High Court order directing the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) to look into the allegations levelled by a Kolkata-based NGO, Sram Jivi Mahila Samiti.
“The NGO had filed a writ in the Delhi High Court alleging that the Vaishnav Placement Agency was not paying the promised money to the women placed by them as domestic helps. The court ordered a probe into the matter. We raided the agency and took down the statements of 15 women,” a senior officer said.
The police said two of the women alleged that they were raped by accused Rahul and Shyam Lal at the placement agency, while another woman said the two sexually assaulted her. The rest of the women said they were not being paid the amount they were promised when they were brought here.
A senior officer said agents visited different rural areas in West Bengal, Orissa and Jharkand, promising “good jobs” to unemployed women. These agents brought women to Delhi to the Vaishnav Placement Agency.
No arrests have been made yet.
“We have registered the FIRs on the basis of the statements given by the victims. We are investigating the matter,” said DCP (South) Anil Shukla.
