Chandigarh While the academic session at Panjab University nears an end, placements have become a difficult task, especially at the University Business School (UBS). The picture is no different at other departments, including the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET). Experts say most students who have not been able to get a job have decided to study further or are seeking admissions abroad.Of the total 140 students at UBS, only 55 have been placed till yet. This despite the fact that UBS is one such department of the university where it’s never a long wait for students to get placed. It holds a 100 per cent placement record for almost all previous years. Of the ones at UBS who have been lucky to find job this year, the maximum pay package that was offered was Rs 10.25 lakh by Bharti Airtel. Training and Placement Officer Prof S K Chadha said: “Placements have really gone down this year. We are still expecting two companies which have a demand of around 50 students. However, it is really difficult that we will achieve the 100 per cent placement mark this year.” Students are, meanwhile, exploring all options. While most of students at UIET are planning an MBA, others have decided to go abroad. Informing Training and Placement Officer from UIET, Dr Gurdeep Singh, said: “Students are going for off campus placements while others are going for any job coming their way. There are many others who have chosen to study further. The final update can be made available only by July but it is certain that not all would get placed.”
