This additional compensation amount includes 30 per cent compensation price and 24 per cent by way of interest for the next two years, provided they hand over the land within a month's time once notified.
Civic chief Praveensinh Pardeshi has also sought the standing committee's permission to appoint a private agency to carry out the land acquisition process at a faster pace. The civic chief has put up these proposals in view of the upcoming Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG).
“The PMC has taken up various development projects in the city under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), Integrated Road Development Project (IRDP) and Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS). However all these projects need to complete in a designated time. And for that the land acquisition has to be done at a faster pace,” the proposal says.
The land reservation in the Development Plan (DP) is carried out as per the provisions in the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporations (BPMC) Act. A municipal corporation can get the possession of the land only when the landowner hands over the property to the corporation with mutual understanding. However, if the landowner refuses to part away with the land, the municipal body acquires it as per the provisions in the BPMC Act.
