Pune The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has collected a record Rs 300 crore from property tax till date in 2008-09.

“This is the first time that the revenue collection from property tax for the Pune Municipal Corporation has crossed the Rs 300 crore mark,” Tax assessment and collection officer Vilas Kanade said. He said the collection of property tax dues would be intensified and action would be initiated against those failing to pay pending dues. In 2007-08, Rs 262.89 crore was collected while there are over two months to go for the end of the current financial year, Kanade pointed out.

Around 2.7 lakh properties that have failed to pay their dues have been identified and soon notices would be served to them, he said, adding that the civic administration collected Rs 33.50 crore of pending dues from 49,000 properties. The civic administration will either disconnect water supply or seal the property defaulting tax, Kanade said.
