The awards were presented by University of Pune Vice Chancellor Narendra Jadhav during a ceremony held at the PMC recently. Raval is the principal the PMC Girls School No. 71, while Shaikh heads the PMC Girls School No. 22 (Urdu Medium). As part of the award, both have received cash of Rs. 5,000.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Jadhav recalled his days as a student at a school run by the Municipal Corporation in Mumbai. He said that those teachers had played a major role in shaping him as an individual. “Primary school teachers play a crucial role in finding the hidden talent in each student. For this purpose training of primary school teachers is very important,” said Jadhav.
During the ceremony, PMC Educational Board head Ashok Rajguru said that the contribution of female teachers in the PMC schools was very high and that they were carrying forward the tradition started by pioneers in women’s education Savitribai Phule and Fatimabi Shaikh.
