About two years back, the PMC had joined hands with Sahyadri Super Specialty Hospital, Karve Road to provide health insurance to senior citizens. "However, the hospital authorities found it tough to continue with the scheme at Rs 450 permium rate and therefore they proposed to make a hike in the premium amount directly to Rs 1500. Since PMC could not afford to pay such a huge amount, we had to invite bids from other hospitals," a civic health official told.
Under the tie-up with Sahyadri Hospital, the senior citizens could get medical services up to Rs one lakh for the listed illnesses. After Sahyadri Hospital's proposed the hike, the civic authorities invited quotations from other hospitals. Four hospitals, including Kotbagi in Aundh, K K Hospital in Chandannagar, Sanjeevani Medical Foundation, Bharati Hospital in Katraj, responded. The amount of premium put forth by these hospitals is Rs 460, Rs 750, Rs 1300 and Rs 1500 respectively.
The commissioner in his proposal said since the places of hospitals and the disparity in the amount of premiums, it is difficult to recommend any one hospital's name. Therefore the civic administration has decided to pay Rs 300 out premium and the rest of the amount will have to be borne by the patient. To avail the facility, the patient must have completed 59 years of age.
