Pune, February 22 The Pune Municipal Corporation will soon get an additional corpus of Rs 97 crore under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. Of this, Rs 75 crore will be for developing the second and third phase of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS).

Pune Municipal Commissioner Praveensinh Pardeshi on Friday held a meeting with officials of the Union Urban Development Department in Delhi. “The meeting was about the revised estimates of various development works including the BRTS, two subways and other road work,” said Pardeshi, when contacted.

The total quantum of sanctioned work includes four projects. The first is the development of the stretch of road between Sangamwadi and Sadalbaba Dargah at an estimated cost of Rs 8.70 crore. For the construction of the subway near Baner Road for the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG), Rs 7.64 crore will be received from the Centre. Similarly, for another subway at Nagar Road, PMC will get Rs 6.90 crore. For the second and third phase of the BRTS, Rs 75 crore have been okayed.

Leader of house Anil Bhosale said, “PMC has also submitted a proposal about the development of Alandi Road. The estimated project cost is Rs 39 crore, however the project design is erroneous at present.”

Pardeshi said the next meeting with the UDD officials is scheduled by the end of February. “In today’s meeting, the first lot of development projects was given a nod. The next meeting, which will take place on February 29, will discuss the next lot of development works.”
