The matter has been adjourned to March 3 when the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) will file its response to the CPCB report.
On Tuesday, a report was filed by the CPCB as demanded by the High court. On the last date of hearing, the Bench had directed the CPCB to constitute a team and submit a report on the pollution, if any, being created by the unit. The CPCB was asked to do so because Dr Bindra had objected to a damaging report submitted by the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB). Senior advocate Ashwani Chopra, counsel for PML, had vehemently argued on Tuesday that the CPCB had not pointed out any deficiency in its report but had only suggested seven measures to further improve and modernise the ETP. In its detailed report, the CPCB had given a list of seven “recommendations” to make pollution control measures effective.
The Bench had, however, expressed a contrary view.
Referring to the seven points as “deficiencies”, the Chief Justice had verbally remarked that the unit should be “shut down”.
